Charcoal and near-black stone

Charcoal is a deep gray that reads as black from a distance; Dark Night goes darker still. Both come in the profiles people use for modern work: Ledge and 3" Strip Ledge for straight courses, Castle for big blocks, Classic for ashlar, and Tumbled for a softened edge.

Dark stone hides dirt and makes a television or a fireplace opening disappear into the wall. On an exterior it pairs with white or wood-look siding and black windows. It absorbs heat in full sun, so on a south-facing wall expect it to be warm to the touch in summer, as any dark masonry is.

Questions about Charcoal and Black Stone Veneer

Is Charcoal really black?

It is a very dark gray. In shade and at night it reads black; in direct sun you see the gray. Dark Night is darker and closer to true black.

Does dark stone fade?

The pigment is cast through the piece, so there is no surface color to wear off. Like any dark masonry it can show efflorescence in the first season; it brushes off and stops.
