Stone on the outside, without the weight
Full elevations, gable accents, garage fronts and entry walls in a veneer that goes on over sheathing and weighs 5 to 8 pounds per square foot.
Stone Veneer Siding and Exterior Facades
Full-bed stone needs a footing, a ledger and a mason who can lift it. Manufactured stone veneer needs a weather barrier, lath and a scratch coat, and it goes on any framed or masonry wall at 5 to 8 pounds per square foot. That is why so much of the new stone you see in Johnson County is veneer, and why we cast ours a short drive from most of those job sites.
Where exterior stone goes
The most common uses, in order: a wainscot or base band under siding or stucco; the front elevation or a gable; garage fronts and entry surrounds; chimneys; and full elevations on custom homes. Each is a flat area in square feet plus outside corners in linear feet, which is exactly how we sell it.
Which profile outside
Ledge in Natural Blend, Deer Ridge or Huron is the standard Kansas City exterior: a drystack ledgestone that goes with every siding color. Dimensional in Rushmore or Suede gives the dressed-limestone look of the older houses in Mission Hills and Brookside. Castle puts big blocks on an entry or a garage front where the stone should look heavy. Tumbled suits a stone-and-stucco house; Classic suits one with brick.
Details that make it last
Two layers of weather-resistive barrier, galvanized lath, a scratch coat, then the stone. A weep screed at the bottom, 4 inches of clearance to grade and 2 inches to paving, flashing at windows, doors and roof lines, and a cap or sill on top of any wainscot so water does not run behind the stone. Follow the manufactured stone veneer installation guide and your local code. A masonry crew at the same address as our plant installs this kind of work; the projects page shows some of it.
Ordering an exterior job
Measure each wall, subtract windows and doors, add 10 percent, and order the total as flats. Measure every outside corner top to bottom and order corners by the linear foot. Order the whole house from one run so the color stays consistent; runs made months apart can differ slightly. Minimum 100 square feet of flats per color, made to order in 2 to 4 weeks, picked up at the plant or shipped at cost. For a whole-house quantity, ask Steve for a project quote at 913-345-8888.

Questions people ask
Can stone veneer go over existing siding?
Not directly. Remove the siding to the sheathing, install the weather barrier and lath, then the stone. Over sound brick or block, a scratch coat goes straight on.
How does manufactured stone handle Kansas weather?
It is cast for exterior use and is on commercial buildings across the metro; see the projects page. The details matter more than the stone: weep screed, flashing and clearance to grade.
Will the color fade?
The color is mineral pigment cast through the piece, not a surface coat, so there is no film to peel. Like any masonry it weathers slowly; a sealer is optional and mostly used to make cleaning easier.
How much does stone veneer siding cost per square foot?
Our price per square foot is on every product page. A contractor typically adds lath, scratch coat, mortar and labor; ask the crew for a per-square-foot installed price and compare it with full-bed stone, which needs a footing.
Do you install?
We make and sell the stone. A masonry crew works from the same address and takes on exterior jobs in the metro; ask us and we will put you in touch.
