Questions About Stone Veneer

Straight answers about our stone, ordering by the square foot, installing it and getting it to your site.

Straight answers, with numbers

Ordering by the square foot, what the stone is made of, how it goes on the wall, and how it gets to your site. If a number is missing here, we do not have it yet, and we say so.

Ordering

How is the stone sold?

Flats by the square foot, corners by the linear foot, price on every product page. One unit is one square foot or one linear foot. Minimum order is 100 square feet of flats per color; corners have no minimum.

How much do I need?

Wall height times width, minus windows and doors, plus 10 percent for cuts and breakage. Outside corners come as separate L-shaped pieces by the linear foot; each linear foot covers about 0.75 square feet of wall, so subtract that from the flats. Every product page has a calculator.

Do I need corners?

On any outside corner, yes, unless you plan a miter. Corners make the wall look solid and they set first, so order them with the flats, not after.

Is there a minimum order?

Yes: 100 square feet of flats per color, about the size of a large fireplace wall or a wainscot along one side of a house. Corners have no minimum. Below 100 square feet the cart will not check out; if your job is smaller, call us and we see what we can do.

Can you make a stone I already have?

Usually, yes. Molds are taken from real stone, so we can match an existing wall or make a profile nobody stocks, above a project minimum that makes the mold worth casting. Send photos and the square feet through the contractor form.

Can I get a sample?

Every color hangs as a sample board at the plant, 10583 Lackman Rd, Lenexa. Come by during business hours; no appointment needed to look at the boards. For contractor jobs and larger projects we send boards to the site: tell us the job. We do not mail single boards for small orders; the projects page shows every profile on a finished wall.

Do you give contractor pricing or quotes?

For larger jobs, send the wall list through the contractor form. You get a written quote by email and, when you accept, an invoice link. Kansas resale exemption is honored with a certificate.

The stone

What is it made of?

Manufactured profiles: cement, lightweight aggregates and natural mineral pigments, cast in molds taken from real stone. Fieldstone and Natural Thin Veneer: quarried stone cut thin.

How much does it weigh?

5 to 8 pounds per square foot. That is under the 15 pounds per square foot limit for adhered veneer in most codes, so it goes on lath and a scratch coat without a footing or a ledge.

How thick is it?

We have not published thickness yet. If your detail depends on it, ask before you order and we measure the profile for you.

Will it fade?

The color comes from natural mineral pigments in the mix. Cut edges show the body color and can be touched up with mortar dye if the cut faces out.

Does it hold up in Kansas winters?

The color comes from natural mineral pigments in the mix, and the stone is installed outdoors across the metro. What makes any adhered stone fail in freeze and thaw is water trapped behind it, so the install matters: weather barrier and lath over framing, a weep screed at the bottom, flashing and sealant where the stone meets windows, roofs and dissimilar materials, and full mortar contact behind every piece. Keep it 4 inches above grade and 2 inches above paving. We have not published a freeze-thaw test report; if a specification requires one, ask us before you order.

Why does my wall look different from the sample board?

The board is a handful of pieces. A wall is hundreds, from a batch that varies piece to piece in color and size. That is normal and it is why the wall reads as stone. Order one batch for the whole job and blend pieces from every pallet.

Installing

What do I set it with?

Type S mortar or a polymer-modified veneer mortar. Over wood framing: weather barrier, metal lath, scratch coat, then stone. Over clean concrete, block or brick: straight on. Back-butter every piece.

Can it go on drywall or plywood?

Not directly. Interior walls get lath and a scratch coat, or a cement board substrate. Exterior walls get a water-resistive barrier under the lath.

Can I use it on a fireplace?

Yes, on the surround and the wall above; it is cement. Not on the firebox floor.

How do I cut it?

Wet saw or an angle grinder with a diamond blade. It is dusty; cut outside and wear a respirator.

Delivery

How long does an order take?

Made-to-order colors ship or are ready for pickup in two to four weeks; colors on the shelf sooner. The plant runs three shifts, so the date we confirm is the date we mean.

Can I pick it up?

Yes, free, at 10583 Lackman Rd, Lenexa, KS 66219. Choose pickup at checkout and wait for the email that says it is ready. We load with a forklift; bring a vehicle rated for the weight.

Do you ship?

We prefer pickup at the plant in Lenexa. If you cannot pick up, ask us: we arrange LTL freight for your address, quote it, and you pay the freight before we ship. The pallet comes curbside; someone must be there to sign. Count and check for breakage before signing and note damage on the receipt; we replace broken pieces reported within 48 hours.

What is your return policy?

Stone is cast to your order and is not returnable. Freight damage noted on the delivery receipt and reported within 48 hours is replaced; so is anything we got wrong. Color variation is not a defect. Details on the returns page.

Still a question?

Email or call the plant. We answer within one business day.
