Low, long ledgestone with a cleft face

Southern Ledge is the thinnest-coursed ledgestone we make. Pieces are long and low with a natural cleft face, and when they are stacked tight the wall shows fine horizontal lines, more like sedimentary rock than a rubble wall. It looks especially good on long, low runs: a foundation band, a wainscot under siding, a garden wall, or a wide fireplace in a room with low ceilings.

Three colors: Bucks Country in mixed tan, brown and gray, Fargo Brown in warm browns, and Dark Night in deep gray to black.

Piece sizes and weight

Pieces run 4 to 14 inches long and 1.5 to 4.25 inches high. Weight is 5 to 8 pounds per square foot.

Installing Southern Ledge

Southern Ledge is an adhered manufactured stone veneer and goes on like any other: a weather-resistive barrier and metal lath over framed walls, a scratch coat, then each piece is buttered with mortar and pressed to the wall. Over concrete or block, the scratch coat goes straight onto the masonry. Keep the stone at least 4 inches above grade and 2 inches above paving, use corners at every outside corner, and follow the manufactured stone veneer installation guide and your local code. Southern Ledge is laid drystack with the pieces touching.

How to order Southern Ledge

Every color is its own product. Open the color, enter the wall area in square feet, and add corners in linear feet if the wall turns a corner. The order minimum is 100 square feet of flats per color; corners have no minimum and can be ordered alone. Prices are on every product page, factory-direct, with no dealer in between.

Stone is made to order in Lenexa, Kansas, and is usually ready in 2 to 4 weeks. Most customers pick up at the plant; if you cannot, we arrange freight to your address and you pay the carrier. Because every run is made for one job, orders are final sale. Order the whole wall from one run so the color stays consistent, and add 10 percent for cuts and waste.

For larger projects, ask for a sample board and a project quote. Get a quote or call 913-345-8888, Monday through Friday.

Questions about Southern Ledge

Where does Southern Ledge look best?

On horizontal runs. The low pieces exaggerate the length of a wall, so a foundation band, a wainscot or a long fireplace wall shows the profile at its best. On a tall narrow column it can look busy; Castle or Dimensional suit that better.

Is Southern Ledge harder to install than Ledge?

Slightly slower, because the pieces are lower and there are more courses per foot of height. The method is the same. A mason used to ledgestone will have no trouble.

Can I mix Southern Ledge with Ledge on one wall?

We do not recommend it. The piece heights differ and the courses will not line up. Choose one profile per wall; you can change profile at a corner or a change of plane.
